Chinodya who was born in Gweru had his tentative studies at Mambo Primary School.

He was the second child in a large, happy family. He went on to read English Literature and Education at the University of Zimbabwe.

After a spell in teaching and Curriculum Development he proceeded to the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (USA) where he earned an MA in Creative Writing.

Remarkably, he developed an early interest in writing and reading.
